Financial Aid through Utah Valley University (UVU)
One of the great benefits of pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Administration at UVU is the ability to pay for your entire education and flight training through federal financial aid and low-interest student loans.
Once you are admitted to UVU as a distance-learning student, you can start the financial aid process. You will first complete the "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA) form online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Based on the information you submit you will be awarded eligible federal grants and scholarships to the extent you qualify for these awards. These federal educational funds may be as high as $10,000 per year. You may also find and qualify for additional scholarships independent from FAFSA. All of the awarded grants and scholarships are absolutely free in support of your educational goals. Unlike loans, these funds do not have to be repaid.
As a result of your FAFSA submission you will also be offered some federal loans (e.g. Stafford loans) with very low interest rates (about 3%-6%) for amounts as high as $12,500 per year. It makes sense to utilize these to the highest amounts you qualify for.
In average, you will spend about $2,000 for the university and $11,000 for your flight training each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). The total federal financial aid you receive typically covers not only your entire university education but also part of your flight training. Still, in all likelihood you will require additional funds from a private lender that offers low-interest (5%-10%) educational loans to provide you with sufficient funds for your flight training. You will need to apply for these loans on your own. When you apply for private student loans, you must select "Utah Valley University" as the institution you want to use for your educational loan(s). UVU will receive your entire financial aid (pell grants, other federal grants, scholarships, federal Stafford loans, and private loans), deduct your university tuition from these funds, and disburse the remainder to you from which you will pay $11,000 into your flight training account at Tallahassee Helicopters each semester (i.e. 3 times per year).
